Climate change awareness is leading a growing number of Swedish families to shun air travel in favor of the train.
The stance against air travel has spawned the term "flygskam," or "flight shame."
SOUNDBITE (English) Pia Bjorstrand, Train Passenger:
"For me, it's important personally because I want to lower my emissions. And that's the main goal. But I also like to inspire people. So I will share this on social media and hope that more people do it."
This trend started in Sweden, where teen climate activist Greta Thunberg has challenged travelers to confront the huge carbon cost of flying.
SOUNDBITE (English) Pia Bjorstrand, Train Passenger:
"Even I, who was climate aware 10 years ago, didn't think about flying in the way that I think now. I didn't know the effect of flying was so big. So we did, we flew everywhere."
The Bjorstrand family's train journey to Copenhagen weighs in at 2.4 kilograms of CO2 per person, compared with over 118 kilograms of CO2 for a one-way flight.
The main Swedish train operator says it sold 1.5 million more tickets in 2018 than the previous year, and expects even more this summer.
After decades of cheap flights abroad for sun-starved Scandinavians, flight shaming could bring big changes in holiday choices.

"I get to spend more time with the family. And I like doing that, especially with my brother because we have a lot more fun."
