Welcome, my fellow Hsitorians, to the final episode of Season Two of the Historians Lounge. Joining us is a first-timer, making her official debut on the show Historian and Archeologist Megan Outtrim. She is a postgraduate student pursuing a Master of Arts in Mediterranean Archaeology from University College London's acclaimed Institute of Archaeology. She is passionate about studying medieval and ancient societies' religious and social interactions, particularly regarding women and children, funerary rituals, constructed space, phenomenology, and cultural syncretism.
Megan earned her BA magna cum laude in history, archaeology, and French from Dickinson College in May 2023, earning departmental awards for excellence for all three majors. In November 2023, the Swarthmore Undergraduate History Journal published her senior history thesis, "Heroes, Victims, and Future Citizens: Representations of French Children During World War I." Her studies have allowed her to work in several other countries and multiple languages, increasing her research depth and allowing her to approach work with a multicultural lens. More recently, she excavated at the Kerdylion site in northern Greece as part of the Argilos Greco-Canadian Archaeological Mission through the University of Montreal before joining the Pompei Porta Sarno Necropolis Project in its bioarchaeological excavations in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii. Megan has a deep passion for preserving the stories and remains of the past and educating others about our shared cultural heritages.
