This made Yamaraj (the god of death) worried. He told Lord Vishnu, “Lord, this is too easy a way to get rid of sins. People will commit sins freely, come here, and be liberated. This will only increase sinful acts in the world.” Then Lord Vishnu replied, “You reside on the third step of this temple.” Thus, the Yamashila (the stone of Yama) was created. This is why it is believed that after having darshan and earning virtue from the temple, if someone steps on that third step, all their earned virtue (punya) will be destroyed.
