Hello! This is a very brief comparison of university in The Sims 2 University, The Sims 3 University Life and The Sims 4 Discover University.
I'm not going as deep as I usually do in this one, this is part 1 of maybe 2 or 3 depending on how part 2 turns out.
In this comparison I'll be talking about the basic aspects like applying for college (I use that word a lot in the video cause "university" is way longer) living on campus, classes and finals. Just the basic stuff. University was firstly introduced in Sims 2 and it's been making comebacks in every game since then ,so it has got to be a fan favorite.
What do you think about University? Did it fulfill your expectations?
My Opinion?
Sims 2 set the rules from the start, all the games follow its basic gameplay so I gotta give it props for that, I loved the cutscenes and how the dorms were set, the majors had a good variety and I liked how you weren't limited to traveling around your neighborhood. Overall, it holds up, but it gets too repetitive with the same 4 actions being repeated over and over until you graduate. Sims 2 is not unique in this but it's the one where I noticed it the most. Or maybe it's my fault for not trying partying? Yep, that's probably it, anyways, this part is about school alone so it's kinda fair.
Sims 3 has hits and misses, it gave some solid new skills, it improved upon classes they way no other game has (but the others aren't impressive per say) the world is huuuge and beautiful, it improved a lot on University, but at the same time, they limited the traveling and cut the degrees very short in variety.
Sims 4 is a bit like Sims 3, more hits and less misses, it improved the degrees, we have good variety and interesting skills to go with them, I like how there are 2 schools, I prefer the way you choose your classes in here, how sims actually learn skills while doing homework, I loved that you can live there even without studying, I like many aspects of it and it would've been nothing but improvements if it hadn't been for the classes and the dorms, not being able to edit them seems like a weird choice and I just hate sims teleporing into buildings, but that's just my preference. As for the classes, they reverted to rabbitholes so that feels like a step backwards.
Overall I don't have a winner here, they all did a good and bad job at certain aspects, I would say Sims 4 is the closest but the classes really pull me back, I thought it was about time that they came up with something cool like a mini active career for classes, but nope. But maybe it would've been too much? I don't know, that's just my opinion.
What's yours? Let me know and hopefully I see you soon for part 2, I plan to do parties, failing class, sororities etc, for part 2 but let's see what else I can fit in there.
