UK LMP3 Cup from Silverstone Arena GP circuit, 13th October 2018, Nielsen Ligier LMP3 with Colin Noble driving.
This was the final round of this years UK Cup, heavy rain preventing race 2 from even starting the following day.
Part 3 (of 3) of the hour long race, Colin Noble racing with the Speedworks, Mectech and now Red River Sport cars, all now in the hands of the pro drivers whereas the first half was the am's.
The championship was designed to give drivers more options rather than just Michelin Le Mans Cup, European Le Mans Series and Asian Le Mans Series.
It was certainly easier to get to UK tracks, ELMS not having visited Silverstone for a UK round since 2016 I think. Problem was most UK circuits are a bit too small for cars of this size, speed and power so other than here at Silverstone you can't really use it to learn how to drive, and to make it worse they put us on Pirellis for the championship but all other LMP3 racing is on Michelins, so you can't teach the drivers how the tyres come in either.
All this led to dwindling grid sizes by the end of this second full season of the championship, a shame as the cars are great fun.
These are all Gen 1 LMP3 cars from Ligier and Norma (now bought out by Duqueine) as are now eligible for the Masters Endurance Legends championship, so finally you can see them racing at Silverstone again in August.
