Ash's Master Quest, the series where I basically try to reconcile the Gym Battles of the anime in to video game terms (which often calls for using games logic to estimate levels and using moves); and the finale is upon us with Ash's big battle against the last Gym Leader of Snowbelle City, Wulfric.

Recall how I've been making a fuss about the presence of Zapdos and Moltres in Ash's Kalos journey? Those, along with Ash's numerous brushes with Alain, Sawyer, and Diantha in between the two final Gyms, have painted quite a picture that elevates the stakes and scale of fighting Wulfric himself. First, Ash held his own against Alain, who bested Malva of Kalos' Elite Four at a handicap on top of prior skirmishes with both fellow Elite Four Siebold and Steven Stone of Hoenn. Then, Ash overcomes Zapdos with his Noibat/Noivern (who was Level 75 for attaining Boomburst), his implicitly weakest battler barring Goodra. And then still, Ash all but bested Alain in a rematch before his imperfect Bond Phenomenon undid both him and Greninja. Finally, Ash and Ash-Greninja were fighting on direct level with Kalos' Champion Diantha and even scored the upper hand before history repeated. If Wulfric was going to be the raw menace he was in-series for this project, the levels were going to have to be high (but not as high as Ash-Greninja). And so, Wulfric becomes the only Gym Leader in the series to pass Level 80 with his Avalugg (Level 82) while his Abamasnow and Bermite (which replaces the Cryogonal from X & Y) scale their Levels off of him a la the games... which are still higher than most of Ash's fighters. To further tip the scales, the fight is kept in Generation VI to reflect how imperfected Battle Bond is by this point. With all of this stacked against Ash, can the reality manage to match the fiction?
