Queenstown is one of the country's most exciting destinations. It is a resort town in the Otago region of the South Island surrounded by towering mountains and positioned on the edge of Lake Wakatipu. The birthplace of bungy jumping and jet boating, Queenstown is famous for its various outdoor activities. During the winter, it's also a popular base for skiers and snowboarders making it a perfect holiday spot all year round. There is a good atmosphere in town and the restaurants and bars are buzzing with a young and young-at-heart community.

Although the Coronavirus has devastated tourism in Queenstown, New Zealand has won its battle against widespread community transmission and it is one of the first countries in the world to do so. They have achieved an efficient model of care access and preparation that has allowed them to fight back COVID-19 and tourists are already starting to return to this beautiful area. To celebrate the end of lockdown and the reopening of the country at Level 2, Mayor Jim completed his second bungy jump from the Kawarau Bridge to declare we're back!
