Hands Off Tibet's Land: A global call for a moratorium

For decades Tibetans in Tibet have been fighting to protect their land from the destruction caused by China’s occupying forces.

Mega dams, unregulated mining, urban development, eviction from their homes, destruction of their livelihoods - China has run roughshod over Tibetan's rights and enough is enough.

Just a few months ago we saw streams of Tibetans in Tibet standing up against China’s might, Directly taking their resistance to China’s wrecking ball to the streets of Tibet - raising their voices as high as they could to tell China to stop its destruction of their land.

We Tibetans from across Tibet are calling for a moratorium on resource extraction and megadevelopment in Tibet.

Under China’s occupation of Tibet, we are calling for the extraction and commodification of all Tibet’s natural resources, and damming for hydroelectric power generation, along with the issuing of exploration license thereof, to be paused until such time that the Tibetan people can:

Give full prior, free, and informed consent to all development projects in Tibet;

Freely, and for the people of Tibet’s own ends, make decisions about
the extraction and disposal of Tibet’s mineral wealth and natural resources including water and the commodification of the geographical opportunities;

Enjoy the highest standards of participatory governance and ecological stewardship for such projects.
