Speaker 1: Today on this 2011 Mercedes Benz Sprinter, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 brake controller, part number 90885. In conjunction with the etrailer eclectic trailer brake controller installation kit part number ETBC7.Here's what our brake controller looks like installed. As you can see we have a nice easy to read display, which makes this a very easy brake controller to use. Now the reason you're going to want a brake controller on your vehicle is because if you have electric trailer brakes on your trailer, you need to have a way to control them. By using a brake controller such as this one, that gives you the ability to do so, so you can stop a lot easier, put less wear and tear on your vehicle's brakes and it's a lot safer. Now what's really great about the Prodigy P2 over other brake controllers is that this is a high quality brake controller that's very easy to use. It has all the basic features that you need without having a premium price.

There's only three controls that you have concern yourself with. On the bottom, this is our manual override. Now what this will do is allow us to control just the trailer brakes without us applying the brakes in our vehicle. So what this will do for us is if our trailer we're to start to jack knife, you want to slow the trailer down without slowing down your vehicle. So you just apply the trailer brakes and this will bring it back in line behind you.

You'll notice the further over you go, the more powers being applied, so the more brake effect that you'll have on the trailer. This dial on the top left, this is our grain adjustment knob. So what this will do, you can set the power all the way up to 11 or you can dial it back all the way down to zero, which is no assist at all. A good place to start is somewhere right in the middle, so about five and a half. This way you can easily go up or down as necessary, depending on the weight of your trailer and your driving habits. This button over here to the right, this is our boost control button. There's four different settings for boost.

Off, boost level one, boost level two, boost level three. As we increase our settings from one to two to three, the quickness at which our trailer brakes are being applied and the intensity at which they're being applied ramps up. So if you find yourself in a situation where the terrain changes and you need more braking ability faster. You don't need to worry about adjusting your knob. You can just quickly reach down and press the button and this will get it up faster, so you don't have to worry about bringing the knob or looking down at the display as you're doing that. Now this is a proportional brake controller.

What proportional means is that this will match the brakes in your vehicle. So if you're slowing down a little bit, the brakes will only be applied a little bit. If you're slowing down a lot, the brakes will be applied a lot on the trailer, so you have a smooth, easy and safe ride. As opposed to a time delay brake controller, this works immediately. Time delay brake controller, there is a delay and the apply the power immediately. It doesn't just ramp up slowly like with a proportional one. So they do offer a little bit of a jerky ride. So this is a much better brake controller than that. This brake controller will also allow you to control up to four axles of trailer brakes. So if you're towing a large gooseneck trailer or fifth wheel trailer with this controller it's not an issue. You can easily control eight brake assemblies on a quad axle trailer with this. Now when comparing this brake controller to the RedArc tow pro elite brake controller that we have as well. This brake controller has less mounting options available to it and has a little bit less features. But this brake controller does have a really easy to read display. Whereas with the RedArc you only have a color LED and you have to memorize what the color and flash patterns mean. Now that we've gone over some features, let's show you how to get this installed. To begin our install, we need to find a location to mount our seven way on our vehicle. Our hitch has a bracket welded to it. So we can use the bracket that comes with our kit. We'll secure the two together using the provided hardware. Now we'll just snug down the hardware.Okay with our seven way secure to the mounting bracket, we'll now secure it to our hitch using the provided hardware. So flat washer, a star washer and then a nut. Now you can see we have a nice solid seven way mounted to our hitch. Now we can begin doi
