It may look like we’re exploring a snowy polar tundra, but that white stuff you see is salt, not snow! Located in the otherworldly Death Valley National Park, the Devil's Golf Course is a vast expanse of salt flats and jagged salt formations that stretch as far as the eye can see.

The salt deposits are the remnants of ancient lakes that once filled Death Valley. Salt continues to be deposited by recurring floods that occasionally submerge the lowest parts of the valley floor. It's a surreal landscape that will make you question whether you're on Earth or some distant planet. If you listen carefully on a warm day, you may hear a metallic sound as the salt pinnacles expand and contract.

Now, you might be wondering, why on earth is it called the Devil's Golf Course? It's not because Satan hosts an annual golf tournament here (though that would be quite the event that I would surely attend). The name actually comes from a line in the 1934 National Park Service guidebook, which stated that "only the devil could play golf" on such a rough surface. And thus, the Devil's Golf Course was born.

Walking on this treacherous terrain is like navigating a minefield of salt spikes. The salt formations are so sharp that they can cut through shoes like a hot knife through butter. The best time to visit is during sunrise or sunset when the salt formations cast long shadows, creating a mesmerizing and eerie atmosphere.

The Devil's Golf Course is not your average golf destination, but it's definitely a hole-in-one when it comes to bizarre and breathtaking landscapes.
