Описание к видео Women in Film: The Changing Landscape- Keynote and Panel Discussion

Trailblazing Women On and Off Screen is an international events series hosted by Women in Screen and Research and Enterprise in the School of Arts and Creative Industries at London South Bank University. This is our fourth year, and we are thrilled to be back to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UK release of the iconic film Thelma & Louise, in association with the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media.

During this event, our keynote speaker was Madeline Di Nonno, President and CEO of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Di Nonno leads the Institute's strategic direction, fundraising, D&I programs, research, financial and operational activities.

Founded in 2004 by Academy Award Winning Actor Geena Davis, the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media is the only research-based organization working collaboratively within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion and reduce negative stereotyping in family entertainment media. In today’s session we will feature 2 of our recent studies on Women aged over 50+ and Black women in Hollywood. Our Ageless Test is the first global study to systematically analyze representations of older adults, with a specific focus on women ages 50+ in entertainment media. A majority of older adults (77%) have experienced ageism, most commonly being treated as frail or shown disrespect because of their age.1 In this study, we examine the extent to which entertainment media contributes to ageism by erasing older adults and presenting them in stereotypical ways in the top-grossing films of 2019 in Germany, France, the UK, and the US.

Our Black Women in Hollywood study examines representations of Black women and girls in entertainment media in 2019. Much of the existing research on race and gender in entertainment media analyzes representations of women and Black people as two distinct groups, but far less is known about the intersectional depictions of Black girls and women in Hollywood.

Our panellists were:
Melanie Hoyes - Europe Council Chair, Industry Inclusion Executive, Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media
Louisa Phung - Director and Writer for both stage and screen and 2nd Assistant Director with the Directors Guild of Canada.
Matilda Feyiṣayọ Ibini - Award-winning, bionic playwright and screenwriter from London
Helen O'hara - Film Journalist and author, and Editor-at-Large at Empire magazine, the world's largest film magazine
