The Sabarimala Ayyappa temple has opened for the two-month Mandala Makaravilakku pilgrimage season. The sanctum was opened by the outgoing melsanthi, followed by the installation of newly selected priests and traditional ceremonies including the Aazhi lighting. Heavy pilgrim turnout marked the opening, with thousands beginning their trek from Pampa. Darshan is available daily from 3 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 11 pm, and devotees are required to book slots online. Key dates include Mandala puja on 27 December , the reopening for Makaravilakku on 30 December, and the Makaravilakku ritual on 14 January.
