Recently we’ve had lots of questions and interest from #blastFoam users regarding gas explosions.

You will be delighted to know that the blastXiFoam (experimental) solver comes with the standard blastFoam install, and this can be used to solve combustion as an extension of the #OpenFOAM XiFoam solver.

The blastXiFoam solver leverages the blastFoam flux schemes to transport the conserved quantities, and this allows a more accurate description of combusting highly compressible flows (e.g., deflagration to detonation transition).

blastFoam is a free and open-source solver for multi-component compressible flow, based on the five-equation model, with application to high-explosive detonation, explosive safety and airblast. The solver has been validated through the use of experimental data from laboratory, scaled, and full-scale tests. Recent work has focused on validation for engineering-scale problems, and near-contact settings.
