My new album of acoustic interludes "Old Growth" is out now: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/nat...

Cor Serpentis (the sphere) is the only interlude that was completely composed before I ever tried learning it. The interplay between the pulsing bass and shifting melodies was greatly inspired by Derek Gripper's incredible solo guitar transcriptions of Malian kora music which he first released on his 2012 album "One Night on Earth: Music from the Strings of Mali". Although nowhere near the level of otherworldly magic he was able to achieve, Cor Serpentis (the sphere) was my attempt at channelling this approach to guitar within a nature/dark folk context.

The demo I sent to Agalloch was recorded with multiple tracks so when I began putting it all together as a solo piece I started getting nervous. When I arrived at the studio to record my interludes with Agalloch watching from the control room alongside legendary producer Billy Anderson, this was the piece I was most worried about. After my first take, the band said they were happy and I didn't hear what I had played until receiving the finished album.
