The STIHL KMA 80 R is the first cordless KombiEngine that is part of the AK System of battery tools. It can be used to power a wide variety of STIHL KombiTool attachments, meaning you can tackle multiple jobs in your home without the need for different tools. And what's more, the KMA 80 R was recently named Best Garden Tool in the Ideal Home Garden Awards 2024.

The KMA 80 R cordless KombiEngine can be used with any KombiTool attachment, excluding the smaller STIHL FSB-KM bent shaft grass trimmer.

Some of our most popular KombiTools are the STIHL FS-KM grass trimmer attachment for mowing and clearing along walls or fences, the HL-KM hedge trimmer attachment for shaping or cutting back hedges, the STIHL BG-KM leaf blower attachment for clearing leaves and debris, the HT-KM pole pruner attachment for pruning branches or fruit trees and the FCB-KM edge trimmer attachment, for edging along paths, driveways and flower beds.

The cordless KombiEngine is fitted with a loop handle which can position the STHL KMA 80 R across the body and can be adjusted quickly thanks to the quick release system. Just release the orange clamp and move the handle to a position that best suits you.

To use the STIHL KMA 80 R battery powered KombiEngine, first choose the KombiTool you need. Simply insert the STIHL KombiTool into the shaft and tighten to secure it in place. Next, make sure to check the work area for wildlife. Then, slot in the battery – the first click is the transport position, meaning the battery is locked but not live, which is ideal for moving the tool around the garden. The second click indicates the tool is live.

The next step is to choose a speed level. Eco mode reduces the RPM to extend the run time, whereas level 2 is for maximum performance and demanding applications. In both modes the trigger allows you to vary the speed to suit the job at hand thanks to the brushless EC motor.

Once you’ve chosen your speed level, you can start using the KMA 80 R cordless KombiEngine to complete the task at hand. And when you’ve finished hedge trimming and need to switch to a different STIHL KombiTool, you can easily remove the attachment and insert another KombiTool and start working again!

As part of the STIHL AK System, the battery that powers the KMA 80 R KombiEngine can be used with any other tool in the AK System range – ranging from cordless lawn mowers to battery powered chainsaws to leaf vacuums and more.
