What to upload, what to upload? Usually I'm most excited about what I've worked on most recently, so here it is.

"Slit Skirts" by Pete Townsend off of his album, "All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" which came out in 1982 and featured Tony Butler on bass.

I learned this one last week after doing some research on Tony Butler for my cover of "My City Was Gone" cover by The Pretenders. Best known for his work with "Big Country", I'd forgotten how many big songs he'd played on. So, as I sometimes do, I went through a bit of his catalog and grabbed a few songs to put into my "to-do queue". This was one of those songs and I really enjoyed learning and playing it. Actually, this was put on the extreme fast track, as I learned, rehearsed, and recorded it in around two days, which never happens. Usually, it's two weeks, minimum. My uncertainty is on display as I count out the section @ 3:20​... I found that counting 4 groups of 6 worked for me. I found the conversational delivery style of the vocals interesting (he crams an awful lot of words in the verses) and was intrigued by the story the song was trying to tell. I'm still trying to figure out what some of the meanings are, but the line that really has me perplexed is this one -
"And girls who lost their children cursed the men who fit the coil
And men not fit for marriage took their refuge in the oil..."
I did some digging on it, but didn't really come up with anything. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas of what it might mean? I know "the coil" is a term used for a birth control device, but I may be reaching.

Since Tony Butler was known to play an Aria back in the day, I'm playing the '81 Aria Pro II SB-700 that has had its stock p/u reinstalled in place of the Bartolini that came in the bass when I got it. The original p/u was was in the case and I just assumed that it was dead, as these p/u's are prone to failure, but it was good! So now it's back to it's original glory. It has, what I'd describe as a "dry", "woody" sound that has a pretty low output. The magnets in the case are a "reverse-P" array and this might be as close to a "Precision" tone as you'll hear me get. My EQ is from a SansAmp Bass Driver Ver. 2.
