Surgical technologists, also known as scrubtechs, surgical techs, or operating room technicians, are an invaluable part of successful hip and #kneereplacement - and much more than just "pass the instruments". Scrubtechs work in hospitals, outpatient centers, and doctors' offices to ensure a safe and organized environment for patients. Their responsibilities include:
Preparing/organizing the operating room/surgical instruments: Setting-up equipment/operating room, setting up the sterile back table/Mayo stand, and ensuring all tools are present, STERILE and functioning properly
Preparing patients: Helping patients get ready for surgery, including transporting them to the operating room and positioning them on the table
Assisting surgeons (often 2-steps ahead): Passing instruments to the surgeon during the procedure, retracting the incision site, and helping with other tasks as needed
