#3 Proactive outreach

💡Leaders ought to take responsibility for having conversations with the people on their team. All the members of their team.

Regardless of the size of your team.

I know. This sounds like a daunting task if your team is larger than 50... or 500.

But ...

You say you care about them but have never spoken to them. Doesn't that sound a little empty?❓
Almost like you are saying, "I care about you but don't have time for you."

Try this:
1️⃣ Get a list of all of the people in your organization. Names and titles.
2️⃣ Block 30 mins out on your calendar.
3️⃣ At the scheduled time, open up Slack and send the first one a simple, "Hey Sally, just reaching out to see how you are doing. We don't get a chance to talk much (ever) so I thought this might be a tolerable substitute. What's going on in your world?" - or something like that.
4️⃣ You can probably do 2 or 3 at a time given the asynchronous nature of IMs.
5️⃣ Continue down the list during your weekly 30 min scheduled outreach time. (Extra credit for blocking out 2 30 min sessions each week)
6️⃣ When/if you reach the bottom of the list, get a new list. People have started and left since you pulled the first list.
7️⃣ Lather, Rinse, Repeat

If you have a large organization this will take some time.

It might even take longer than 6 months or longer.

But I can assure you of 3 things:
▶️ Many of your team members will be grateful for the outreach.
▶️ You will learn a thing or three from your team through this process.
▶️ 6 months is far faster than never... which is the track you are on if you don't make a change.
