HD T29E3 Heavy Tank Walkaround at Ft. Benning

Описание к видео HD T29E3 Heavy Tank Walkaround at Ft. Benning

Honestly I never heard about this tank before WoT but the game brought it alive, as it never saw service I don't think I would have looked into it, but I'm glad I did, finding out about it has been awesome. Check out the info below! ↓

The T29 series began its roots when development began in early 1944 on a tank which could counter heavy German armor. Based on the T26E3 which saw service at the end of WWII, the army needed a longer, heavier chassis to carry a larger gun. WWII ended before the ordered T29 prototypes and its produced variants could have a chance to see full production or service. This vehicle is identifiable as T29E3 by its 'ears', boxes on the outside of the turret which contain the lenses for a coincidence rangefinder.

Weighing in 64 tons, the T29 heavy tank was manned by a crew of 6, requiring two loaders for the two-part ammunition. Powered by a V12 Ford GAC engine, it could reach a top speed of 22 mph in optimal road conditions with a range of about 100 miles. It was armored with a 105 mm T5E1 main gun as well as two .50 cal Browning machine guns, a coaxial .50 cal and one .30 cal Browning machine gun on the front of the hull.

This big beauty currently resides at the National Armor and Cavalry Collection at Ft. Benning, GA, and can be seen with a fresh coat of paint. Connect with NACC here:   / nationalarmorandcavalrymuseum
