What do you do when someone praises you way too much?

It's common in the Muslim community when someone is praised for doing something good, out of a false sense of humility they'll reject the praise.

This is not the correct approach In Islam when someone praises you.

Yes, as Muslims we should pay close attention to the status of our heart and whatever we're being praised for is a blessing from Allah. And, indeed all praise and expressions for gratitude belong to Allah.

However, we have to remember that it's the prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The one who doesn't thank the people is not actually thanking Allah."

When someone is praising or thanking your, it's their way for praising and thanking Allah. So, we shouldn't reject that praise.

As for what's going on in our heart, there's an excellent du'aa (prayer) shared by Abu Bakr, one of the close companions of the Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings be upon him.

When he was praised, he'd remind himself of three things. They would say,

اللَّهمّ اجْعَلْنِي خَيْرًا مِمَّا يَظُنُّونَ، وَاغْفِرْ لِي مَا لا يَعْلَمُونَ، وَلا تُؤَاخِذْنِي بِمَا يَقُولُونَ

"O Allah, make me better than what they think of me, and forgive me for what they don't know about me, and don't hold me accountable for what they are saying about me."
