The AFL is in trouble. The Carlton Blues were the latest casualty against a formidable Sydney Swans outfit who despite conceding the first 4 goals of the game, absolutely annihilated the Blues and made them look second rate. Sydney's midfield composed of Chad Warner, Isaac Heeney, James Rowbottom, James Jordon, Errol Gulden, Taylor Adams & Brodie Grundy is the perfectly balanced midfield that cover all bases with Callum Mills and Luke Parker still to return leaving oppositions with their hands full. Whilst Sydney's gameplay was wonderful to watch, the Carlton Sydney match also shed light on how far off from the benchmark Carlton are. Many fumbles, and poor fundamental skill execution occurred throughout the game, as well as simple discipline & respect for the opposition lacking.

Today, in this analysis, we break down the Round 10 fixture's key moments, looking at some key contributors for the Swans and how they shut down the stars of the Carlton midfield, the difference in quality and how Sydney are well covered on all 3 lines, and we assess where Carlton's gameplan needs resolving ahead of their next fixture and beyond.
