Transitioning Your Horse's Diet: A 3-Week Guide to Prevent Colic

Colic is a serious concern for horse owners. One key prevention strategy? A careful, gradual change in diet. Here's how to do it in three weeks:

Week 1: Introduction Start by mixing 75% of your horse's current hay with 25% of the new hay. Observe your horse closely for any signs of discomfort or digestive upset. Tip: Ensure your horse has continuous access to clean water and regular exercise.

Week 2: Transition Shift the mix to a 50/50 ratio of old and new hay. Keep monitoring your horse's health and behavior. Remember: Consistency is key. Feed at the same times each day to maintain a stable digestive routine.

Week 3: Completion Time to move to 75% new hay and 25% old hay. By the end of the week, you should be able to switch entirely to the new feed.
