Common Snook: Known for their distinctive features, Snooks can reach lengths of up to 48 inches and weigh as much as 38 pounds. They are characterized by a sloping forehead, a large mouth with a protruding lower jaw, a prominent dorsal fin, and a black lateral line extending to their tail. Their coloration ranges from dark brown on the back to silvery on the sides and white underneath. During spawning season, their pelvic and caudal fins take on a yellow hue. These hermaphroditic fish transition from male to female as they mature and are typically found in near-shore vegetative habitats like river mouths and salt marshes.
