Despite the call from the opposition parties, the presidential office has reaffirmed that President Geun-hye will resign in accordance with legal procedures decided by the National Assembly.
The Presidential Office of Cheong Wa Dae repeated the president's statement this morning, saying she will fully abide by the assembly's plan for the next steps.
At a daily briefing, President Park's spokesperson also said she will appoint the independent counsel at an early date as previously pledged.
The counsel will then launch an independent probe into the president and her staff.
The top office reaffirmed that President Park will arrange an occasion in which she will answer questions on all outstanding issues, as she said during her national address yesterday.
She left yesterday's brief address without answering any questions from the media.
