Tadao Ando designed the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth that opened in 2002. Five flat roofed pavilions sit beside a 1.5 acre pond. As you enter, the pond and pavilions are visible beyond the lobby. The “Y” shaped columns support the concrete roofs. Concrete is Ando’s preferred material and he has developed special construction techniques. Museum corridors framed by concrete walls are terminated with views of the pond. Jenny Holzer’s Kind of Blue is on display, reflecting in the water and the glass. Ando said that “the glass and the water make this a very unique space. You will always be aware of nature in this building. I think of it as an arbor for art”.
