Pakistan has achieved a historic milestone in tax collection as December 2025 recorded the highest-ever tax revenue in the country’s history. Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb praised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and directed officials to further accelerate tax collection efforts.

According to official data, FBR collected Rs 1,427.1 billion in December 2025, achieving 99% of the monthly target—the highest December collection ever. Inland Revenue alone collected 99.8% of its target, reflecting improved tax compliance, effective enforcement, and successful digital reforms.

The finance minister highlighted that digitization of the economy, cashless transactions, and institutional accountability have begun delivering sustainable results without harming business activity. Month-on-month tax collection surged by 59%, while income tax collection saw a massive 107% increase.

This development is being seen as a major success of Pakistan’s fiscal reform agenda, but questions remain about its long-term impact on inflation, businesses, and taxpayers.
