अकबरपुर उत्तर प्रदेश प्रान्त का एक शहर है। वर्तमान समय यह अम्बेडकर नगर का जिला मुख्यालय है। पावन सरयू नदी इस जनपद का मुख्य आकर्षण है। यह भूमि प्रभु श्री राम की लीला स्थली होने के कारण तीर्थ भूमि है। यहां के भव्य प्राचीन मन्दिर यवनो के आक्रमण में ध्वस्त कर दिये गये। यह स्वतंत्रता सेनानी डॉ. राम मनोहर लोहिया की जन्म स्थली भी है।

Akbarpur, is situated on the banks of the Tamsa River (also known as the Tons River). The Tamasa River divides the city of Ambedkarnagar into two parts, Akbarpur and Shahzadpur, with the latter being the commercial centre of the city. Lorepur, part of Akbarpur City, is noted as the location of the old palace and imambargah of Lorepur.

According to the Ramayana, Akbarpur is where King Dashratha shot Shravan Kumar, at the place called Shravan kshetra. The ashram of the sage Shringi Rishi was situated here. According to the Ramayana, Lord Rama's son Kusha rules Shravasti. The Rajbhar King rules its eastern part. In the Ramayana Lord Rama battled with many Rajbhar Kings.

यह एक नगर पालिका परिषद है। तमसा नदी शहर को अकबरपुर व शहज़ाद पुर में विभाजित करती है। राजकीय इंजीनियरिंग कॉलेज यहाँ से 4 किलोमीटर की दूरी फैजाबाद मार्ग पर स्थित है। यही पर प्रसिद्ध शिव बाबा मंन्दिर हैं, यहाँ से 5किलोमीटर दक्षिणा दिशा में श्रावण धाम मन्दिर है रामायण के अनुसार राजा दशरथ ने शिकार करते समय यही पर श्रावण की तीर लगाने से मृत्यु हुई थी, यहाँ टांडा में मेडिकल कालेज भी है। टांडा कस्बे से 2 किलोमीटर पर NTPC थरमाल पवार कि एक इकाई भी लगी हुई हैं जो बिजली उत्पाद का कार्य करती है। यहाँ टांडा, अकबरपुर औऱ जलालपुर कई छोटे लुम के कारखाने हैं, जिस में टेरीकाट औऱ सूती कपड़े ,लुन्गी(ताहबन) गमछा आदि तैयार होते हैं। यह शहर रेलवे साधन से जुड़ा हुआ है यहां से राजधानी लखनऊ की दूरी लगभग 189 किलोमीटर है। कानपुर यहां से रेलवे मार्ग से 263 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है। सड़क मार्ग से दूरी में कुछ अन्तर है। राजेसुल्तानपुर, टान्डा, जलालपुर, बसखारी, कटेहरी अम्बेडकर नगर जिले का प्रमुख

Ram Manohar Lohia was born on 23 March 1910 at Akbarpur in what is now the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. His family were prosperous Vaishyas.
His mother died in 1912, when he was just two years old, and he was later brought up by his father Hiralal who never remarried. In 1918 he accompanied his father to Bombay where he completed his high school education. He attended the Banaras Hindu University to complete his intermediate course work
