The Guam Education Board discussed the school calendar, changes which the Guam Federation of Teachers union outrightly opposed on Tuesday, March 16. The union members made no secret of what they thought of board members' decisions at the meeting, heckling the board members at times.

According to Superintendent Jon Fernandez, the board tabled proposed changes to the current school year calendar. "For now we are status quo," Fernandez said. "That means all students released on May 20. All teachers released on June 2. No time to transition schools for FestPac."

The board on Tuesday voted to approve calendars for upcoming school years. School Year 2016-17 will have 173 instructional days , two teacher work days, 2 parent-teacher conference days and 8 professional development days.

SY 2017-18 will have 173 instructional days, 2 teacher work days, 2 parent-teacher conference days and 9 professional staff days.
