Ever wonder what a dairy cow vet actually does all day? I filmed a typical day so you can see what it’s really like, from early morning pregnancy checks to checking in on calves, doing data work, and even handling the occasional emergency surgery right on the farm.

I usually hit the road before the sun comes up so I can fit into the cows’ schedule. Once I get to the farm, I throw on my ultrasound goggles and boots and get to work checking cows, walking pens, and making sure everything looks good, not just the animals, but the environment they live in too.

It’s not just about treating sick cows (though I do that too). It’s about making sure they’re living in a good space, being cared for properly, and spotting little problems before they become big ones. I also spend time with the people on the farm training, teaching, and working together to keep everything running smoothly.

This job can be unpredictable, messy, and exhausting, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. If you’ve ever been curious about life as a large animal vet, or what goes into caring for dairy cows, I hope this gives you a good glimpse.
