The famous Hastinapur capital city of Pandavas of Mahabharatha period is about 100 kms east from New Delhi and near the city of Meerut. It is in ruins now with only a Pandav Tila of about 5 km sq remaining in the middle of the village. On the foothill is an ancient Shiva Temple, and a Shani Temple as well on the upstairs to the tila. Recently, excavations by the government agencies have found some ruins in a small patch of land of about 1000 sft wherein some ancient coins were also found alongwith some other artefacts. Nearby an ancient well is also found. The whole campus is being landscaped. An ancient Karn Temple is also there at about a distance of1 km from the tila. On the whole, Hastinapur has not much remaining from the Mahabharatha period, although there are many marvellous modern and huge Jain Temples and Jambudweep and Kailash Parvat replicas that have made Hastinapur a Jain tourist destination, and recreation centre for children.
