In under four years the first woman will explore the moon's surface for the first time in history. Women have advanced space exploration since the beginning and are about to spark a new age of science. Space suits and other equipment designed to survive the harsh environment of space are being altered to meet women’s differences. Understanding the effect, the moon has on women would be an advancement itself, but the different perspective women could bring could enhance problem solving when working in dangerous environments like space. The first woman to land on the moon could also capture the attention of younger women and increase women in STEM. I believe there is nothing more exciting than space exploration and I’m confident myself and other women could change it and make it even better. Elynor Head attends Indiana State University and currently is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geology. She is a part of the Honors College and has been able to get involved in student research at a relatively young age. Elynor is currently studying diatoms in acid mine drainage and has a large interest in science, especially involving space exploration, and renewable energy. In her academic future at Indiana State, she hopes to become involved in the John C. Hooke observatory on campus and continue to be a part of undergraduate research. Elynor hopes to impact the world by getting more individuals interested in science no matter their sex, age, or race. She believes all individuals can expand humanities understanding of what’s around us through scientific discovery.
