The original tune of 'Farewell' was for 'Dreaming of Home and Mother' by the U.S. composer J. P. Ordway. In 1915, Li Shutong wrote the Chinese lyrics to say good bye to his good friend. This song once was popular among teachers and students as a school song, and has been covered in innumerable versions. Wang Xi used to mention 'inheritance' many times.
