On Oct. 10 at 7:00 PM, three time Oscar nominee James Ivory comes to Portland to introduce MAURICE (1987), starring James Wilby, Hugh Grant and Rupert Graves.

Handpicked by Ivory for the screening series, MAURICE is on the short list of films for which Ivory also served as screenwriter (with Kit Hesketh-Harvey). James Ivory was born in Berkeley, grew up in Klamath Falls, and graduated from the University of Oregon.

James Ivory won the Silver Lion at the 1987 Venice Film Festival for MAURICE. James Wilby and Hugh Grant were both awarded Best Actor at that festival for their performances in MAURICE. For both actors, and for Rupert Graves, these were their first starring roles.

MAURICE is the second of a trio of award winning E. M. Forster adaptations by Merchant Ivory Productions. The first was A ROOM WITH A VIEW, for which Ivory received an Oscar nomination, and the third was HOWARD'S END, for which he also receive a second Oscar nomination.

James Ivory is the second Oregon director to receive an Oscar nomination. The first was James Blue, a classmate of James Ivory at the University of Oregon.
