Text from the album cover back:
""This is the spirit of the Good Book set to heartwarming music.
All of us who truly feel the need to speak with the Lord are not satisfied to confine our worship to Sunday churchgoing - because religion does not stop with the weekend church visit. It must abide with us seven days a week, 52 weeks a year all the years of our lives. That is the real worship, the faith that permeates our lives, rules our existence. And prayers need not be made with the long face of gloom. They can be set to happy sounding music, the music of God fearing folk who worship God the best they know how. He can be worshiped through music & through the voices of His people raised in song in His glory.
That is what this album is. it sings the praises of Glory to the Almighty... and it sings them in the tongue of His own people, the country & mountain folk who disdain the sophistication of the slickters & smart alecs who think themselves too clever to think of a reply to that most profound question, "Were you there when they crucified my Lord; were you there when they nailed him to the cross?"
In the voices & instruments heard in this album of country gospel songs you will recognize devotion & sanctity set forth in a happy framework of musical expression - for religion & music are wholly akin. They go hand in hand to express the desire of our people to worship in a most natural fashion... guitars, banjos, fiddles & voices raised in glorious unison for the honor and glory of the Almighty.
Some of the finest and most revered songs are contained within these covers. You'll rediscover such favorites as Calvary's Cross, Angel Band, You Go to Your Church (and I'll Go to Mine), A Place Upon a Mountain, When you kneel & Were You There When They Crucified My Lord. You'll truly exult in each stirring rendition. When you play this recording in the privacy of your home and listen completely rapt, there is no need to seek explanation of the content, for the content speaks nobly for itself. It is to do honor to the glory of God. As this music fills the room, it fills the soul.""

*Note from Haunted Jukebox: After reviewing this album, I am of the firm belief that there is not, nor was there ever was such a "Hester Family." Topps Record Label just made it look like there was such a family called, "The Hesters." Instead, this is a random assortment of talented bluegrass artists of that time period with a fake family name slapped on them to make it seem more folksy.
