Our Stories in STEM is a children’s picture book created to inspire a new generation of female STEM professionals by highlighting the stories of diverse Canadian women currently working in STEM. We chose to create a book because research shows that girls under 10 years of age absorb the most information in visual and literary formats. What makes our book different is that it features relatable and current stories of triumph and struggle of girls who look just like them.

The exposure and impact of storytelling through role models at the early childhood education level, specifically girls under 10, is enormous. And although we can’t guarantee that an interest in STEM will lead to a career in it, we believe that you can’t be what you don’t see, so representation and exposure to these role models is an important step!
