In this video, I have explained in detail why the vow of Ibn Masʿūd (رضي الله عنه) cannot be treated as binding evidence in Islamic law. There is no verse in the Qur’an, nor any authentic instruction in the Sunnah, that commands us to treat the personal vows, individual practices, or independent understandings of the Companions as definitive proof in matters of religion. The only binding sources of Sharīʿah remain the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
Furthermore, I have presented textual evidence demonstrating that the personal vows or individual interpretations of the Companions are not, in themselves, a source of legislation. While the Companions are deeply respected and honoured, their personal actions — when not clearly rooted in revelation — do not automatically constitute religious proof for the entire Ummah.
