🌴 Welcome to Budget Traveller Chris — where adventure meets authenticity !
In this video, Fiona the French Bulldog and I invite you to our Rooftop Garden Suite in Mazatlán, Mexico, where we’re serenaded daily by one of the most fascinating and vocal birds in the region — the Great-tailed Grackle ( Quiscalus Mexicanus )
When I first arrived at this beautiful Airbnb rooftop suite, I was greeted by over two dozen Great-tailed Grackles nesting in the rafters.
While their unique songs and calls are undeniably enchanting, their constant presence — and their droppings — quickly turned into a full-time cleaning job !
Over time, I managed to chase most of them away, but a few determined grackles still remain.
In this video, you'll hear their bizarre, otherworldly calls, and see one of these persistent characters perched overhead.

🐦 About the Great-tailed Grackle
The Great-tailed Grackle is native to North and Central America, ranging from the southern United States to Peru.
Known for their glossy black or iridescent plumage ( males ) and loud, varied vocalizations, they’ve adapted well to urban environments.
They’re highly intelligent birds and can mimic sounds, communicate in complex ways, and often live in large, noisy flocks.
Grackles are omnivorous and thrive in cities due to their opportunistic feeding habits.
But beware — while fascinating, they’re not exactly the best roommates, especially if your rooftop garden becomes their favorite hangout spot !

🐾 Fiona, our sweet, speedy, and quirky French Bulldog, is just as intrigued by these birds as I am.
She's loving her freedom in the open-air suite, chasing her favorite toy and grunting with joy
— yes, she sounds like a pig sometimes, but that’s just part of her charm !
🐶 About Fiona the French Bulldog
French Bulldogs originated in 19th-century France, developed as a companion breed from English bulldogs crossed with Parisian ratters.
With their bat-like ears, stocky build, and playful, loving nature, they’ve become one of the world’s most popular small dog breeds.
Fiona is a perfect example of why Frenchies are adored.

She's playful, incredibly fast, full of love, and occasionally obsessed with — well, bird poop !
As odd as her habits may be, she brings joy, laughter, and companionship to every moment here in Mazatlán.
🎬 Whether it’s Grackles croaking from the rafters, Fiona chasing her toy, or the beauty of watching a once-dead plant spring back to life, this is the kind of raw, unscripted travel content that makes the journey real !
