As you know, I was away on vacation for about three months, and when I returned home, I found that many of my tanks were covered in algae. While I was away, my father stopped by whenever he could to check on the fish and feed them. Unfortunately, without realizing it, he overfed them, which caused serious algae and cyanobacteria outbreaks in many of the tanks.

The front glass of this tank was completely covered in algae, and the plants had been exposed to such heavy algae growth that they were close to melting. The internal filter was also entirely covered in algae and had stopped working.

I performed a deep cleaning of the tank, saved the plants that I could, and replanted them back into the aquarium.

During this process, out of the three Channa Aurantimaculata that were in the tank, one of them killed its two siblings. It is now the sole ruler of the tank and will not accept any other living creature alongside it.

I added plane tree leaves and branches that I collected from nature to the tank. When collecting these materials, I make sure they are completely dry. The leaves must have fallen naturally from the tree, I only pick them up from the ground, never directly from the branches. I follow the same rule for the branches.

These botanicals don't immediately once placed in water, so before adding them to the tank, you can soak them in a separate container for a few days. That way, they will sink right away when you place them in the aquarium. I simply rinse them with water before adding them, I don't boil them or apply any kind of disinfection.

Plane leaves and branches give the water a light yellow tint, but since I wanted a darker tone, I also added catappa leaves and alder cones to the tank.

The Channa absolutely loves hanging out among the leaves!
