California Cultured: Welcome to the Future of Sustainable and Ethical Chocolate

Many chocolate lovers do not understand the ethical toll involved in creating their favorite product. The majority of cacao farming takes place in Côte d'Ivoire and has led to the destruction of 85% of the rainforest there. Primates and other animals native to the area are losing their home at an alarming rate, putting their populations in danger.

The massive deforestation related to chocolate production is just one of the reasons why California Cultured was born. We make chocolate without contributing to deforestation by growing it using cacao cells in our lab. We provide our cells with nutrients and conditions similar to what cacao trees are used to getting in the rainforest in order to create the best-tasting chocolate without adding to animal population loss and deforestation.
