I went to northern Haiti to the border town of Ouanaminthe to see first hand what's going on with the people, the necessity for this canal, & touched on what got us all here in the first place.
Political riff raff goes a lot further than DR.

Haiti is rich. Haiti is wealthy. Haiti has massive potential, but certain foreign higher powers are making it hard for the people. The middle of this video will really begin to educate you.😉 We must create awareness, while helping in any way we can (especially fellow diaspora)

OH... by the way!
Haiti🇭🇹IS RICH… why are all these countries in its business? Ask yourself❓Why are countries keeping it dependent❓Watch this video.    • Banana Wars: The American invasion of...

IN SHORT, ITS POOR BECAUSE OF “THE WHITE MAN” (I know that comment will rile some folks up. No not all white people… just “the man” AKA the USA & France first & foremost) ... in short ***
It’s the United States of America’s fault my motherland🇭🇹 is the way it is.

Media loves saying “poorest country in the Western Hemisphere” … I’ve been hearing this since a kid. It’s as if there’s a manual to say this when you mention Haiti. It’s so poor yet the USA can’t stop sticking it’s fingers in it’s resources.🤷🏽‍♂️ there’s no other Snapple fact to give the masses besides this “Western Hemisphere” hogwash. Why don’t they ever follow up with “first country in the Western Hemisphere to abolish slavery(over 60 years before USA) and also help several other Latin American countries gain independence”? … how come it’s never “first slave colony in the Western Hemisphere to successfully revolt and chop up white slave masters”? … wouldn’t fit the narrative they’re looking for eh?

It’s a way to keep morale down. I don’t ever hear the USA tout itself as the nation with the highest debt/deficit… that it’s owned by China or Russia🤷🏽‍♂️

🇭🇹Haiti was screwed long before the 2010 earthquake. In short, Haiti is poor because of the white man/colonialism/American foreign policy & how they instigate/allow corruption while also stealing resources. I’d love to see more education and acknowledgment that Haiti started out having almost no chance from early on because of outside factors. In long it’s everything that happened since it’s 1804 from being blackballed from trade and not recognized as a free nation by much of the world. Haiti paid the ultimate price as martyrs. It’s France extorting the newly formed Haiti to pay back “reparations” or else they’d invade again... the equivalent of billions of dollars over the next century. That helped cripple the nation. The US occupation/invasion starting in 1915 for 20 years played a huge role in oppressing a barely developed nation. The US troops r*ped, & killed thousands. Soil erosion and deforestation around the capital due to paying the extortionist colonizers.

Haiti can’t even give its own farmers and agricultural sector a chance because they import most their food from DR and abroad. Google search what the US President of the 90s (starts with a C) did with Haiti’s rice crops. The subsidized it so Haitians import cheaper or free rice from the US, instead of growing and buying it locally to stimulate the economy. Gold reserves were stripped by US troops during the 1915 invasion/occupation that lasted 20 years.

The USA influenced dictatorship in RD & Haiti. They trained Trujillo. Haiti was forced to borrow US bank money to pay back that ridiculous debt from France simply for fighting slavery and getting independence in 1804. It’s extremely complex as you stated, but there are way more layers you’ll need to peel back and understand beyond the basic things you pointed out. With all that said I still have to remain hopeful in a future and help how I can. I’m tired of only seeing the poverty and charity showcased. Racists have needed Haiti to be poor since it was founded. They pushed for its poverty. They have celebrated its poverty. They have tried to profit from its poverty.

I’ll be posting more positive Haitian content when I go back but in the mean time shout out to channels like @seejeanty showing the touristic sides, pretty lush sides and the entrepreneurial potentials that exist for the diaspora to hopefully come back. Haiti’s rich culture, resiliency, food, dance, music, people need to be more highlighter and celebrated. It’s Haiti that helped liberate DR, and other Latin American countries. It’s because of Haiti the USA doubled in size with the Louisiana purchase. If the outside world stopped only seeing and knowing Haiti as being poor, maybe more interest would happen. Let’s highlight it’s gorgeous parts + potential for a change. ✅✌🏽#Haiti #Haitian #HaitiBorder #HaitiCanal #Dominican Republic
