Loktak Lake is one of the Ramsar sites in India. This wonder lake is situated at a distance of 53 km from Imphal, Manipur. It is a pulsating lake. It is famous for the phumdis- a collection of floating heterogeneous masses of vegetation, decomposing organic matter and soil. The phumdis floating in this lake are formed naturally. These take form when the foliage floating in the water piles up together over the course of many years. The lake is home to the world’s only floating national park 'Keibul Lamjao National Park'. Keibul Lamjao National Park is the last home of the fast disappearing Sangai deer.
