Building large scale application is more difficult than many people understand or expect. Join me in this long running series where I set out to duplicate one of the most popular social media platforms ever creating using Java, Spring Boot, Spring Security, PostgreSQL data, React JS web application framework and more.

In this episode, we implement the ability to rename conversations across the app. On the backend, we extend the ConversationService with a method to update the conversation name and create a corresponding UpdateConversationNameRequest DTO. We expose this functionality via a new controller endpoint.

On the frontend, we build a MessageRenameConversationModal using the reusable BottomlessModal component, complete with a top bar, input field, and action buttons to save or remove the conversation name. We update the Redux ModalSlice and MessageSlice to handle opening the modal and performing the async rename action via a thunk. The modal integrates with the MessagePageConversationInfoPane, allowing users to rename a conversation directly from the conversation info page.
