A Stroll Round Seahouses Town & Harbour 1969

Описание к видео A Stroll Round Seahouses Town & Harbour 1969

This is a nice eight minute long piece of footage that my grandad has taken on one afternoon's stroll around Seahouses, both the town and the harbour, in 1969.

It's amazing to see some of the old shops and buildings that don't exist anymore, such as Mole's the fish & chip shop, and Hunter's the florist. Some old staples of Seahouses never change however - Coxons and the Farne Island Gift Shop there in 69, and still here today...

Near the end of my grandads stroll, the weather takes a turn for the worse. The black & red warning flags are flying from the end of the harbour, and the sea is breaking big waves over the harbour walls.

Many thanks to the good folk on the Facebook groups "Seahouses Fishing Boats & Harbour" and "Seahouses Local Area & History" for their help with these videos. Phil Hanvey was able to tell me this video was shot in 1969, as the white boat at 9m3s, FR168 Providence was only painted white that particular year!

The original footage from 1969, although being in colour, was of a pretty low quality. The resolution was only 720 x 576, there was a lot of grain and noise, and the entire footage had a pink/purple colour cast throughout.

After getting the original footage digitized, I have edited and enhanced it using modern software. I have upscaled it, denoised, sharpened, and removed the colour cast as best I can, rebalancing the colours and contrast closer to how my grandad no doubt saw it on that day in 1969.
