Hello Everyone! In this video I go over how to setup and play the game Sheriff of Nottingham.

In the game, each player is playing as a member of the Robin Hood and the Merry men and are attempting to sneak goods into the city. Each player takes a turn playing as the sheriff, and must decide if the other players are telling the truth, or are lying through their teeth.

Setup is easy enough, each player takes a board and a bag of the matching color, and then gets 50 gold and 6 cards. The rest of the cards are set aside in one pile. Then the starting sheriff is chosen, and the game starts.

The first phase is market phase. You set aside any goods you do not want, and then draw from the draw pile back up to 6 cards.

Then is the load merchant bag. You put in however many cards, 1 to 5, into your bag.

Then is the declaration phase. Here, you must declare what is in your bag. The only two rules are that you must be correct with the number of cards in your bag, and you must declare a legal good. So you can state you have 4 bread in your bag, even if your bag is loaded with 4 cheese.

Then is the inspection phase. The Sheriff must decide on each bag, weather they let them through or if the bag is being checked. Here is where the bribes come out, as they are very much encouraged in this game. You can bribe with favors, money, goods in your stand, or goods in your bag. There can be negotiation on both sides, and there can be NO demands from the sheriff. That being said, this is the best phase as this is where people get animated when talking with each other.

Once the sheriff decides on a bag, there is no reversing that decision. You also MUST honor bribes in that if you take them, you must let them through. However, favors are none binding, meaning you can let someone through for a pass next turn, but then decide not to honor it as there is no honor among thieves.

Then players take their goods out of the bag. If allowed through, they get to put their goods into their stand, including any contraband they got through. If they get checked though, there is a different outcome. If the merchant was honest, they get paid an inconvenience fee from the sheriff. However, if they get caught with contraband or lying about what good was in the bag, then those goods get confiscated and the player who was caught pays the fine.

Then players draw up to 6 cards, the sheriff shifts, and the next round starts. Once all players have been the sheriff a set number of times, the game is over and points are counted.

This is one of our favorite games as it is incredibly fun to not only sneak goods through, but CATCH people sneaking goods through. As such, we enjoy playing this one when we get a chance. It has alot of replay value, and is a solid and quick game overall.

Can't recommend this game enough. Hope you enjoy!

Cheers!
