An extremely rare and beautiful Kolathur wedding ornament in gold traditionally worn by brides of the Nattukottai Chettiyar community in South India. Each component hold a special significance. The hand shaped units with four Vedas - Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva, the ones
with five fingers are believed to symbolise the joining of hands by the bride and groom on this auspicious occasion. This component is surmounted by sharp spires that terminate in a four - faceted pyramid representing the four cardinal directions, lending it an appearance of a stupa. Motifs such as birds and yallis (Lion-like mythical creatures) are delicately detailed on the central pierced unit. The pendants carrying the images of goddess 'Lakshmi' at the front side and the icons of, 'Meenakshi Sunareshwar', 'Rishabha' bull in the second row.
Tubular gold beads are strung as spacers between the elements,with the tassel pendant at the back fixed to the ends of the chain.
