What’s Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a successful Pokemon-inspired P2E game that’s based on blockchain technology. Here, players collect cute little monsters called "Axies," which are represented by NFTs. These creatures can be gathered, bred, and sold for a price based on their rarity. Their prices can range from a few dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars!
Trung Nguyen, a Vietnamese software developer, founded Axie Infinity back in 2017 after being inspired by the popularity of the world-famous CryptoKitties, the rare and valuable NFT kittens maintained on the Ethereum network.
Nguyen tried to bring all of the advantages of blockchain technology into video games, giving users ownership rights to the in-game items they earned.
Sky Mavis, the team behind Axie Infinity, in which Axies reside, is a tech-focused game studio that's co-led by Nguyen. The reason why the team decided to build a Pokemon-style game utilizing the Ethereum blockchain is the growth of P2E games. Sky Mavis was valued at $3 billion in 2021 after raising $152 million, making it one of the top gaming companies on the planet!
