In this When The Curtain Falls guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this Greta Van Fleet hit note-for-note.

The tuning in standard tuning.

"When The Curtain Falls" begins with a cool G sus4 chord and then launches into a challenging main riff that starts with sliding octaves that move into a fast blues based lick around the G minor pentatonic scale.

When performing this lick, feel free to pick the descending part of the riff or do it with pull-offs, it sounds great either way and the pull-offs will make it a bit easier to play. However, alternate picking the entire lick will help give the notes that punchy quality.

In the pre-chorus, guitarist Jake Kiszka uses barre chords played in the Hendrix fashion with the thumb playing the bass notes on the 6th string. Playing the chords this way will enable you to play the melodic melody line on top that moves the chord into a sus4 chord then back to the major chord. At the end of the pre-chorus there is a quick little lick that leads into the chorus.

The chorus has a couple of guitars playing at the same time. There is the chord progression and some leads fill over it. Kiszka usually just plays the chords live while occasionally jumping into the fills in the last chorus. I will demsontrate how to play both parts. The first two chorus sections have very similar lead parts, the but the one at the end of the song is quite a bit different.

The pre-chorus brings the dynamics down quite a bit and sets us up for the solo.

The guitar solo is also based around the G minor pentatonic scale form at the 3rd fret and an octave up. I will break it down for you phrase-by-phrase.

I hope you enjoy this one! #whenthecurtainfallsguitarlesson #gretavanfleet #guitarcovers
