CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear provided an update in regards to the coronavirus pandemic at a press conference on Tuesday.

Beshear announced all daycares will close by the end of the business day Friday. He also ordered all movie theaters, gyms and salons closed by the end of the day Wednesday.

Beshear announced on Monday the commonwealth's first death with COVID-19 as a contributing factor. The state now has 27 positive cases of the novel coronavirus.

Lyon County now has one positive case. Other cases are in Harrison, Jefferson, Nelson, Fayette and Montgomery counties.

The only death has been a 66-year-old man from Bourbon County.

Dr. Steven Stack, commissioner of the Department of Public Health, and Beshear encouraged the importance of social distancing to help prevent the spread of the virus, especially when near senior citizens, who are the most vulnerable.

Stack said though the administration has directly addressed schools, bars and restaurants – which are all closed with the exception of restaurant delivery and drive-thrus – the same concept of social distancing should apply to all businesses.

“This is a time to apply the basic principle of keeping us apart from each other,” Stack said.

Beshear began a news conference Tuesday with a kid-friendly video explaining the coronavirus pandemic. The video explained the importance of social distancing and being honest with your children, alternatives to in-person visits, getting information from reliable places and making routines at home.

“Remember, we’re having to take some tough steps,” he said. “Please understand that these steps are absolutely necessary, but we are going to do it and we’re going to get through it.”
