One injured, 30 detained after BJP-Youth Congress workers clash in Nampally
Youth Congress activists reportedly pelted stones at BJP office in protest against remarks of BJP former MP Ramesh Bidhuri on Congress MP Priyanka Vadra

Political tension rose on Tuesday (January 07) after Youth Congress workers and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers clashed and attacked each other’s party offices in the Nampally area. Cases were booked and around 30 individuals were taken into police custody following the clash.

Tension escalated at Exhibition Road in Nampally as Youth Congress activists allegedly pelted stones at BJP State office, in protest against inappropriate remarks made by BJP former Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri about Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

According to police officials, a BJP worker was injured who was shifted to Osmania General Hospital. The Abids police booked two cases for attacking and trespassing the BJP office and detained seven individuals. “We are analysing the CCTV footage to identity more people involved in the attack,” Abids Inspector S. A. Emmanuel said.
Later, another 22 BJP workers were detained by the Begum Bazar police when they reached Gandhi Bhavan, where the Youth Congress activists had planned a protest. Some 20-30 police officials, including those from the task force, were deployed on ground for bandobast and the situation was contained.

“We are yet to receive a formal complaint from the Youth Congress representatives. A case will be booked and investigation will be initiated accordingly,” said Begum Bazar Inspector G. Vijay Kumar.

The attack attracted strong reactions from leaders of both the parties.
