The coalition government in Andhra Pradesh has decided to withdraw the pattadar passbooks carrying former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s photographs and issue new official passbooks with the government seal. While the move is being implemented as part of an election promise, it has sparked criticism due to the estimated cost of nearly ₹50 crore, especially at a time when the state government is facing financial challenges.

During the previous regime, Jagananna Bhu Raksha passbooks were issued under the Land Titling Act, which faced objections from various quarters over land disputes and survey-related errors. After coming to power, the coalition government announced the cancellation of those passbooks and has now decided to distribute fresh pattadar passbooks.

From the 2nd to the 9th of this month, around 21.80 lakh new passbooks will be distributed to farmers across the state. Revenue Minister Anagani Sathya Prasad stated that land disputes and survey mistakes were the primary reasons behind this decision.
